Hello Cats and Kittens of the Universe, specifically Earth!
Call me a foolish dreamer. Or call me a dreamish fooler. Or simply call me a fool. But I do have an itch that must be shared and scratched… on an arbitrary and global scale. Yes, my dears, that’s a party invitation I’m layin’ down. Or, rather, a zi11ion party invitations!
In just one year’s time, the man-made stars are going to align. Our busy little preoccupation with defining the world around us is going to give us some fun, oh yeah. November 11, 2011. Or more singularly– 11/11/11.
Now, as my clock is always tickin’, I happened to think about this one: from 11:11:11 a.m. until 11:11:11 p.m. on 11/11/11… we really have the rare chance to do something special. You know, because we can. During those 12 hours, don’t ya think we should take this one to 11, as they say? It will be a Friday, after all…
So here’s my simple little proposal, and please do pass it along. For those 12 hours on that 11 day– 12 on 11– let’s actively go out there and do nothing but good. Throw a big party with a small group of friends. Throw a small party with a select group of enemies. Volunteer. Pick up trash. Wash your neighbor’s car. Tie every game you play, or lose if it makes the other side feel good. Make a lemonade stand and give out the 50 cents with every glass. If you’re a politician, tell the truth on the record and see how that one feels. If you’re a parent, take your kid fishing and don’t get mad when he hooks your ear.
Oh yes, the list goes on and on. I mean, it doesn’t yet, but it could…
Imagine those twelve hours rolling peacefully around the timezones of the planet. Think about how good it would be to be good… together. Normally, the definitions and delineations are the tools we use to hurt each other. And, you know, we’re pretty good at that, as the headlines show. So let’s flip the the script, y’all.
11/11/11. It’ll be more calm and beautiful than Manhattan in a snowstorm. And someone, somewhere out there, might notice. (Even if their clocks and calendars are much different than our own.)
We’ve got one year to plan and scheme our good little dreams. Oh, and please, take lots of pictures along the way. Then we can make one big global scrapbook and finally look into the collective mirror and say to ourselves, “Well, we did it once…”
It’s just a thought. But a pretty good one. I’ll race ya…
